In most cases, problems with fonts have been caused by malformed font files giving trouble to Fontconfig. If you experience crashes at start-up when GIMP scans your font directories, as a quick workaround you can start GIMP with the --no-fonts command line argument, but then you will not be able to use the text tool.

Een storend maar te verwijden probleem ontstaat in Windows als u een lettertype probeert te gebruiken waarin iets fout is. U krijgt dan een foutmelding van Windows in een popup-scherm. Dat popup-scherm moet u niet sluiten!. Het scherm doet niets, maar als u het sluit dan sluit u GIMP mee. Dan lijkt het dat GIMP is gecrashed, maar u hebt hem zelf afgesloten. Dit toch-een-probleem ontstaat ergens in de samenwerking van Windows en de lettertype-bibliotheken en kan helaas in GIMP niet worden opgelost. Maar u hoeft alleen maar het schermpje te minimaliseren.
